"There are times in painting when your conscious thought process drops away and you are acting and reacting intuitively to what is happening on the canvas. These times are a gift. In the Northwest, people seem highly attuned to light, maybe due to the difference between summer daylight and winter daylight, or the amount of light on sunny days or the amount of light on rainy days. Light often inspires me to paint. Entering a room, seeing the way light lies on objects, the color of the light, the intensity, the time of day, or time of year, all tell a story about that moment."
